Attachmate e-Vantage ViewMaster

Welcome Upgrading Overview Installation Requirements Procedure Starting

Starting with ViewMaster

Once you have installed ViewMaster, you can create a Web page that launches a viewer or printer applet.

For detailed information about the different types of host connections, editing the Web pages, and using keyboard maps and translation tables, refer to the Attachmate e-Vantage ViewMaster Administrator's Guide, which is accessible in .PDF form from the Start menu after installation.

For a Unix Server, see Presenting ViewMaster-Generated Web Pages from a Unix Server.

To create a ViewMaster-generated Web page
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, click Attachmate ViewMaster, and respond to the prompts.

The information that you are prompted for varies, depending on the host connection type and which viewer or printer applet you're using. As you complete the ViewMaster Wizard, keep the following guidelines in mind:

    • If you are creating a Web page for a viewer, you are prompted to specify which keyboard map (if any) to use, and depending on the browser you are using, you might be prompted to specify which translation table to use (if any).

The ViewMaster Wizard lists only those keyboard maps and translation tables that exist in the default locations. If you place keyboard maps and/or translation tables in any other location, they will not be listed in the ViewMaster Wizard, and you will have to type the file name(s) manually. When typing a file name, you must specify the path to it relative to the location of the viewer's .cab or .jar file. For example, if the keyboard map MyMap.ekm is in a folder called Keymaps in the \ViewMaster folder, you would type the following:

      ..\Keymaps\MyMap.ekm

And the translation table MyTable.tbl is in C:\MyTables, you would type the following:

      ..\..\..\..\MyTables\MyTable.tbl

    • Displaying the viewer or printer applet as framed or embedded affects not only its appearance, but also its behavior.

    • Caution If the viewer or printer applet is embedded, refreshing the browser restarts the viewer or printer applet, disrupting the host connection. For viewers, the host application's login screen reappears. If you refresh the browser, you will lose any data that you might have typed on the screen.
    • If you save the Web page in any location other than the default folder, you must manually change the value for the CodeBase attribute in the Web page to specify the path to the folder that contains the viewer or printer applet's .cab or .jar file. For more information, refer to the Attachmate e-Vantage ViewMaster Administrator's Guide.

  2. To access the Web page, use MyComputer or Windows Explorer, browse to the folder that contains the Web page that you created using the ViewMaster Wizard, and then double-click the .htm file.

Your default browser opens, and the Web page appears.

  3. (Optional) To make it easier to access this Web page in the future, you can add it to your Favorites or Bookmarks menu.

  4. If a security warning appears, click the option to grant access.

Depending on how the host connection is configured, communication with the host will be established automatically. If not, you may have to press the Transmit key to establish a connection.
