Removing Cached Files at the Client

With previous releases of Host Access Server, when users accessed a viewer or printer applet for the first time, they might have been prompted about caching the Java files. This prompt appeared only if this option was enabled on the server. If the Java files were cached, they were installed as objects on the client. If the users chose not to cache the files, they may have been cached anyway, depending on how their browser was configured.

If the files were installed as objects on the client, users must remove those objects before using this release. The procedure for doing this varies, depending on which browser the clients use.

To remove objects using Microsoft Internet Explorer
  1. From the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

  2. In the Temporary Internet Files group box, click Settings.

  3. On the Settings dialog box, click View Objects.

  4. On the Downloaded Program Files application window, right-click the appropriate item (such as the name of the viewer), and click Remove.

  5. Affirm the dialog boxes and close the browser to complete the process.

To remove objects using Netscape Communicator
Note For Netscape Communicator 6.x, use the Java Plug-In Control Panel to clear the cache. This console is accessed from the Windows Control Panel rather than from the browser.
  1. From the Edit menu, click Preferences.

  2. In the Category tree, double-click Advanced.

  3. Click SmartUpdate.

  4. In the list, click the appropriate item (such as the name of the viewer), and click Uninstall.

  5. Affirm the dialog boxes and close the browser to complete the process.
