Accessing EXTRA! Enterprise Sessions

With Presentation Integrator, you can create a presentation that contains one or more EXTRA! Enterprise sessions. The session files can reside in two places:

These approaches are not mutually exclusive; you can use either or both, even within a single presentation.

Note When you make an .EDP file available via a server, EXTRA! Enterprise does not have to be installed on that server. However, this product must be installed on each client that will access a presentation that contains an EXTRA! Enterprise session.

When a user accesses a presentation that contains a session, the user is prompted to save the file or open it from its current location. The user should open the file rather than save it. If EXTRA! Enterprise is not installed on the client, only the text contained in the .EDP file appears in the presentation.

No matter what the DisplayType value is for the resource, the session always appears in a separate window. It cannot be embedded within the presentation.

To provide access to an .EDP file on a server
  1. Using EXTRA! Enterprise or Terminal Viewers, create a session and save it in a directory on a server that is accessible to all clients (that is, not behind a firewall or other security mechanism). This server must be a Web server.

For information about this procedure, refer to the Help for EXTRA! Enterprise or for Terminal Viewers.

  2. At the server where the file was saved, use your Web server software (such as Microsoft Internet Information Services) to create a virtual directory that points to the directory where the .EDP file was saved.

This step in only necessary if you have saved your .EDP file to a location other than your default Web site. For information about this procedure, refer to the documentation for your Web server software.

  3. Using Presentation Integrator, click New Web Doc in the Resources pane.

  4. In the URL box, type the URL of the session file. For example:

    http://server_name/file_name.edp
or, if you've followed step 2:
    http://server_name/virtual_directory/file_name.edp.

  5. In the Name box, type a name for the session.

This is the name that appears in the Resources pane and Design View.

  6. If desired, type a description for the session in the Description box.

This description appears in the Resource Properties pane when you click the name of the session in either the Resources pane or the Design View.

  7. Click OK.

The session appears in the Web Docs folder in the Resources pane, and you can add it to a presentation as you would any other resource (by dragging it from the Resources pane to the Design View).

  2. Using Presentation Integrator, click New Web Doc in the Resources pane.

  3. In the URL box, type the full path to the .EDP file (such as C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\file_name.edp).

  5. If desired, type a description for the session in the Description box.

This description appears in the Resource Properties pane when you click the name of the session in either the Resources pane or the Design View.

  6. Click OK.

The session appears in the Web Docs folder in the Resources pane, and you can add it to a presentation as you would any other resource (by dragging it from the Resources pane to the Design View).
