Creating an ID Set

When you assign IDs to a name, you might want to group certain IDs together in sets. For example, you might want a specific ID used for terminal emulation to always be used with a specific ID for host printing.

By creating a set, you ensure that when a client receives one ID in the set, the second session that the client opens will use another ID in that set.

To create an ID set
  1. In the MCS selection panel, point to MCS Functions and then click ID Manager.

    The ID Manager tree appears.

  2. In the ID Manager tree, click Configure.

The ID Manager property pages appear in the MCS management panel.

  3. Click the Assignments tab.

  4. In the Names list, click the name whose IDs you want to associate together in a set.

If the Names list does not display the desired name, make sure the appropriate option is selected in the Name Display group box.

  5. Click ID Sets.

  6. Click Create Set.

  7. In the Starting ID Set Name text box, type a name for the set.

To create multiple ID sets simultaneously, select Generate Multiple ID Sets and type the number of ID sets to create in the Number Of ID Sets To Generate text box.

For example, if you type Set1 in the Starting ID Set Name text box, select Generate Multiple ID Sets, and type 20 in the Number Of ID Sets To Generate text box, you will create 20 ID sets (Set1, Set2, Set3...Set20).

If you type a value that does not end in a digit and select Generate Multiple ID Sets, an incrementing number is appended to the end of the text. For example, if you type NewSet in the Starting ID Set Name text box, select Generate Multiple ID Sets, and type 4 in the Number Of ID Sets To Generate text box, the first ID set will be NewSet1, the second ID set will be NewSet2, the third ID set will be NewSet3, and the fourth ID set will be NewSet4.

  8. Click Finish.

  9. In the Sets list, click the name of the set you just created (if it is not already selected).

  10. To add IDs to the set, click the ID that you want to add in the Available IDs list, and then click Add ID. The ID moves from the Available IDs list to the IDs In The Set list.

To remove an ID from the set, click the ID that you want to remove in the IDs In The Set list, and then click Remove ID. The ID moves from the IDs In The Set list to the Available IDs list.

    You can select multiple IDs.

  11. Click OK.
