The Copybook Source Editor contains visual indicators that help you locate syntax errors within the copybook.

• A red cross indicates all errors in the left margin of the copybook editor.

• A wavy red line indicates the location of the error.

• A red block in the right-hand margin indicates errors within the entire copybook.

• Click on the red block in the right-hand margin to jump to the line containing the error.

• When all errors are corrected the red square in the top right-hand margin is removed.

• You can synchronize the copybook with the host transaction and client operation if errors remain in the copybook source. In that case, the copybook editor containing the errors will be in focus.

  If errors in the copybook source are present that could disable the client operation mappings, you will be prompted to OK the procedure before you can continue. When you remove errors from the copybook, the host transaction is repaired, but you must always manually update the client operation.

Because the copybook reflects the underlying COMMAREA or Message I/O area of the host program, it is difficult to validate the contents of the copybook. Make sure the final layout of the copybook that will be used by the host transaction matches the COMMAREA.
