Configuring a .NET Environment

To generate and use .NET Web services or remotable objects, you must complete the following installations:

• Install .NET Visual Studio on the computer where Attachmate Designer Studio is installed and, using the Options page from the Tools menu in Task Builder for IMS, set the value of .NET.Studio.Home to point to the location where you installed .NET Visual Studio (specifically, the directory containing devenv.exe).

• Install Microsoft IIS on the server where you intend to deploy a .NET Web service or host a .NET remote object. This is not necessary if you are writing a custom application to host the remote object.

• Install the .NET Framework on the server where you intend to deploy a .NET Web service or host a .NET remote object.

• Install the IMSConnectorProxy Service on the server where you intend to deploy a .NET Web service or host a .NET remote object.

  You can choose to install the IMSConnectorProxy Service when you install the Client Support option, see Enabling Client Access to Run-time Servers for more information.

• Java is required on the server where .NET objects are hosted or where a stand-alone Web service is installed; however, you can serve remotable objects from a Web server that has no Java installed, if you use a separate server to access the Synapta runtime server.
