Configuring Task Failover and Load Balancing
By providing an environment for your applications with task failover and load balancing, you can safeguard important task operations from server downtime, and more evenly distribute the workload across the network. However, before you can do so, you must first associate tasks with specific run-time servers and agent clusters, and register multiple run-time servers to use for failover.
||You can use an existing agent cluster if one is in place, if it includes all of the client computers to which a given task has been deployed.
|To configure a failover and load balanced environment
- Associate the task with specific registered run-time servers (for further information, refer to the procedure in Associating Tasks with Run-time Servers).
- From the Registered Runtime Server list, select one or more servers on which you want to run the selected task.
- To add a server to the Failover/Load Balancing list, click Add.
When building your failover list, the order in which a server is listed is the order in which failover occurs. Once added, you can change the server priority with the Up and Down buttons.
- (Optional) To enable load balancing for this task configuration, select Enable Load Balancing, and then click OK.
Tasks will run on the same series of run-time servers, and in the same order as the failover list.
- If necessary, continue to associate tasks with servers.
- From the Registered Runtime Server page, to save the task configuration to the database and to deploy the task configuration to the client computers contained in the agent cluster, including any failover and load balancing information, click Apply All Changes.
||Apply All Changes will also cause any changes made that have not already been applied to the Registered Runtime pages to take effect.
