SNA Gateway Configuration: New Mode Dialog Box

Use the New Mode dialog box to define new mode properties for your SNA Gateway system. Mode properties define how many sessions a particular local LU to partner LU pair will support.

All of the new mode's configuration parameters, except User ID and Password, are required and must contain a valid value.

Mode ID:  Enter a unique name for the mode definition. The name can be up to 8 characters in length and is typically obtained from the host administrator. Mode SNASVCMG is a default mode through which the number of sessions is negotiated with the host. Actual conversations with the host are performed through other modes. The APPCPCLM mode is used by the "CPMI" program for ECI-type conversation.

Local LU:  Select a Local LU from the list of pre-defined Local LUs. Local LUs are configured on the New Local LU dialog box.

Partner LU:  Select a Partner LU from the list of pre-defined Partner LUs. Partner LUs are configured on the New Partner LU dialog box.

Maximum Sessions:  Enter the maximum number of simultaneous connections you can have to the host using this mode. The value negotiated depends on the amount of memory available to the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) and the available host resources. It may be possible to alter the amount of JVM heap memory through JVM command line options such as -Xms and -Xmz. Modes should be configured for at least 2 sessions.

Minimum Con Winners:  Enter the minimum number of contention winner sessions that the local LU is guaranteed to have as a contention winner. A contention winner, on an LU-LU session, is the LU that is permitted to begin a conversation at any time.

The value, when added to the value in the Minimum Con Losers field, must be less than or equal to the Maximum Sessions value. The default, 0, indicates that the system will dynamically determine the winner.

Minimum Con Losers:  Enter the minimum number of contention loser sessions that the partner LU is guaranteed to have as a contention winner. A contention loser on an LU-LU session, is the LU that must use an SNA BID command (LUTYPE6.1) or an LUSTATUS command (APPC) to request permission to begin a conversation.

Note Contention state, in data communications, is a type of data link control in which either user may transmit whenever the line or link is available. If both users attempt to transmit at the same time, the protocols or the hardware determines who goes first.

User ID:  (Optional) Enter the user ID used at login.

Password:  (Optional) Enter the password used at login.
