New / Edit J2EE Session EJB Wizard: Choose Deploy Download Options

From the Choose Deploy Download Options page you can deploy your application, download the EJB JAR and connector RAR files, or choose to do nothing and deploy or download your application at a later time.

Whether you automatically deploy, or download and manually deploy the application, you must deploy both the connector RAR and EJB JAR files in order to successfully use your session EJB.

Choose Deploy Download Options

Task File:  The task file you selected to package on the Selected Task File and Application Server page.

Application Server:  The application server you selected to deploy to on the Selected Task File and Application Server page. Depending on the application server you selected you will have different options. You cannot automatically deploy applications to WebSphere or Oracle application servers. You must manually deploy the appropriate files to both those application servers.

State Management Mode:  The state mode you selected on the Task File and Application Server page. This is either Stateful or Stateless depending on the type of EJB you want to create. See Configuring J2EE Session EJBs in the Related Topics list for more information on state management.

Finish Action

These options vary depending on the application server you selected to deploy your application to. The first item in the list is always the default action.

You can only deploy files (the default action), when using WebLogic or SunOne application servers.

This option
Does this
Deploy EJB JAR and Connector RAR WebLogic or SunOne only. If you are creating EJBs for use with WebLogic or SunOne application servers you can automatically deploy your application. Select this option to deploy the EJB JAR and connector RAR files to the application server you specified on the Task File and Application Server page.

The connector RAR and EJB JAR files are deployed to the following locations in the application server administration interface:

  • WebLogic - Deployments/Connector Modules and Deployments/EJB Modules respectively.

  • SunOne - Applications/Connector Modules and Applications/EJB Modules respectively.

If you only want to deploy the connector RAR file and not the EJB JAR file when using SunOne or WebLogic, you can either:

  • download the connector RAR and manually deploy it using the SunOne or WebLogic administrative console
    -or-
  • deploy both the connector RAR and EJB JAR automatically using the user interface and then manually undeploy the EJB JAR using the SunOne or WebLogic administative console.

Download EJB JAR and Connector RAR
(Application EAR for OracleAS)
This option is available for all supported application servers. If you are creating EJBs for use with WebSphere or Oracle application servers, then you must download the EAR file and then manually deploy the application. You will be prompted for the location of where you want to save the EAR.
Note For OracleAS deployments the EJB JAR and connector RAR are bundled together as an Application EAR file.
Do nothing at this time This option is available for all supported application servers. Your session EJB will be added to the J2EE Session EJB Deployments page list, but it will not be deployed or downloaded. You can deploy or download the packaged application, depending on your application server, from the list by selecting it and then choosing Deploy or Download.

Once the Finish action is complete you are returned to the J2EE Session EJB Deployments page.
