You can store data in memory for use anywhere in an application by assigning it to a global variable. From the Assign Global Variables dialog box, you map an eligible data element or a constant to a global variable as part of an Assignment action. After that Assignment action has been executed, the assigned global variable can then be used as input or output at any point in your application.
Eligible Data
Lists the data elements eligible to be assigned to a global variable during the current event. These include:
Properties button: Displays the properties for the selected item. If there are no associated properties, this button is unavailable.
Screen Image Pane
Displays the selected screen image, based upon your selection under Eligible Data.
If you select This results The current form A representation of that form is displayed within this pane. Any unprotected fields that were automatically created when the form was generated will be available, together with any controls accepting input that you may have added. The current host application screen (indicated by an icon showing a green screen) A representation of that screen is displayed within this pane, providing an easy method for you to view the fields you can select, and a way to create your own fields.
Show User Fields: If selected, all user-defined fields on the host screen appear framed in light blue (cyan). If a Host Application screen is not selected, this option does not appear.
Show Host Fields: If selected, all host fields on the host screen appear framed in dark blue. If a Host Application screen is not selected, this option does not appear.
Create New User Field button: When selected, drag the pointer to select a new user-defined field. If a Host Application screen is not selected, this option does not appear.
Host Field/User Field list box: Displays the name of the selected field and allows you to select from complete field list. If a Host Application screen is not selected, this option does not appear.
Delete Selected User Field button: Removes the selected user-defined field from the host screen and list box. If a Host Application screen is not selected, this option does not appear.
Add Mapping button: If, under Eligible Data, you selected a data element, and, under Global Variables, you selected a global variable, choose this button to map the data element to the global variable.
Mapped Items
Displays the eligible data/global variable mappings that have been created and that will be processed as the current Assignment action.
Global Variables
Global Variables list: Shows the global variables available to be mapped.
To Right-click Create a new global variable The Global Variables list name, and choose New. Map a constant to a global variable The variable and choose Map Constant. Properties button: Displays the properties for the selected item. If there are no associated properties, this button is unavailable.
