Overview: Installation

Planning your installation involves understanding which components to install on which servers or clients, and the way to handle issues such as load balancing. Review the terms of your license agreement before installing any components — you might have to purchase additional licenses to install certain components on separate computers.

In a production environment, the designer components and Management & Control Services (MCS) are typically installed on separate computers, but all components can be installed on the same computer. This may be more convenient in a development environment.

Note The designer components of Presentation Builder can be installed only in a Windows environment; the management and run-time components can be installed in either Windows or UNIX.

To ensure a smooth installation process, and to optimize the performance of your Attachmate components, you can prepare by reviewing these topics:

Scalability Considerations

To provide server scalability, failover protection, and load balancing for the management components, you can install MCS on multiple servers across your network, creating a server cluster. For more information, refer to Managing MCS Servers and Clusters, Overview.
