Create two different customized versions of the same host application to provide different functionalities and appearance to different user groups.

Using Presentation Builder, you can tailor your host applications for the particular needs of different user groups within your organization. First, using the Presentation Designer component, you can create two or more different customized applications based on the same host application. Then using the Presentation Manager component, you can assign those customized applications to different user groups.

You might, for example, want to restrict access to data for one user group but not another; or you might want to let one group enter account information, say, using a text box while using a drop-down list for another set of users so that they can access only a predefined set of accounts. Not only does this make is easy for you to tailor the same host information in ways that are suitable for different groups, but it also provides a level of security: you can control exactly how much access to the host a given group has.

Before You Start

This How-To assumes that you have installed Presentation Designer and have access to an MCS server that has Presentation Manager installed. See How to Create a Simple Application for more information on the basic steps required to create an application.

Following are the main steps you need to complete for this How-To:

  1. Customize a host application for one group of users.

  2. Customize the same host application for a second group of users.

  3. Assign different users to the two applications.
