You configure your design-time host connection when you create a new project. From then on, by default, whenever you open that project in Presentation Designer, your session automatically connects to the host. Also, you can add or modify design-time host connections at any time from the Host menu.
The design-time host connection information is stored as part of your presentation, where it is used to create the run-time host session. In your application, you can configure, connect, and disconnect run-time host sessions through events, but to have the ability to do these things, you must first create design-time host connections to any host that you want your application to be able to connect to.
For example, you may want your application to use a host session that is configured with information you don't have at design time, such as the user name or the IP address of the client. First, you need to create the design-time host connection, then you need to add an event to your application that configures the connection and then connects it. So you're really "connecting to the host" twice; once at design time, and then your application triggers the Connect action to connect the run-time host session. For details, see Configuring a Host Session at Run Time.
