Creating a New Project

To create a custom Presentation Builder application, you begin by creating a project in Presentation Designer. A project contains everything necessary to create and publish an application, including settings such as which MCS server to publish to. To work on the design of your custom application, open your project in Presentation Designer.

When you create a new project, you must first decide whether to start it based on an active host session or a blank form (to which you will add content). Both active host screen forms and user-defined forms can be added to your project at any time, so this decision doesn't limit your project in any way.

To create a new application project
  1. Run Presentation Designer.

  2. From the File menu, choose New Project.

The New Project dialog box appears.

  3. Choose one of the following:
    To start your application from
    Do this
    An active host session
    1. Under Application Information, select An Active Host Session (the default), and choose Next.

The New Project dialog box appears with the Project Information page selected.

    2. Type a name for the project, and choose Next.

The Project Information page provides other settings that can be changed later by choosing, from the Edit menu, Project Properties.

    3. Select a Host Type, and then choose OK.

The Host Settings dialog box appears.

    4. Configure the connection settings for your host type, then choose OK.

For details, see the connection configuration topics for your host type. For information about options in the Host Settings dialog box, click the Help button in the dialog box with the relevant page displayed.

After you click OK, the Connection Information dialog box appears showing the configuration settings.

You can choose the Modify button and modify your connection settings at any time before choosing the Finish button. (There are several ways to change these settings later as well.)

    A blank form
    1. Under Application Information, select Designing Forms, and choose Next.

The Project Information page of the New Project dialog box appears.

    2. Type a name for the project, and choose Next.
Note Themes are available only if you are creating forms from an active host session.

The Form Information dialog box appears.

    3. Type a name for the main — or beginning — form. (You can rename this later if you want.)
  4. Choose Finish.

Your new project is shown in the project pane.
