Assigning Global Variables from Screen Bindings

To make a data element available to use as input or output at any point in your application, assign it to a global variable. You can assign global variables through the Screen Binding editor. Variables assigned in this manner will have the specified value as soon as the bound screen is processed (an action occurs on that form causing it to be submitted to the run-time service). You can also assign variables as part of an event, but that variable won't have the value you specified until the event has been run.

To assign a data element to a global variable
  1. With a recorded screen selected, click the Customize tab.
Note Controls on user-defined forms cannot have screen bindings.
  2. Select a control, right-click it, then, under Screen Binding, choose Edit.

If you created a new control, under Screen Binding, choose New.

The Screen Binding editor appears, showing the original host screen.

  3. From the From Control page of the Screen Binding editor, select the Assign the Control Value to Global Variable(s) check box.

  4. Click the New Global button.

The New Global dialog box appears.

  5. Type a name for the new global variable, and click OK.

  6. Click OK to close the Screen Binding editor.
