Installing Reflection

Automatic Installation Procedure

It is recommended that you use the automated installer when one is available for your operating system. The file name is rweb-setup-*, where * names the operating system for which the installer is designed. You can use the automated installer to install all Reflection Administrator components on the same computer at the same time. Or you can run the installer more than once to install components on different computers.

The following procedure describes a complete installation of all Reflection Administrator components. During installation, you will see only those panels that describe the components you choose to install.

  1. To run the automated installer:

  2. Select a language. (This selection determines the language used during installation only. No matter which language you choose for the installation process, support for English, French, German, and Japanese is included in the installed product.)

  3. If you are upgrading from an earlier version of Reflection for the Web, see Upgrading from an Earlier Version before proceeding.

  4. A servlet runner (Tomcat) is installed if you install the Reflection management server or the metering server component. If you prefer to use a different servlet runner with these components, you must install the component manually. If you decide to perform a manual installation, click Cancel.

  5. Read and accept the license agreement.

  6. Accept the default installation directory, browse to a new directory, or enter the directory where you want to install Reflection Administrator. This directory should be non-servable; that is, it should be in a directory that is not accessible to web servers or servlet runners.

  7. Select the components to install:

    Note: The following steps vary depending on which components you choose. If you install all of the components, follow these steps in order. If, however, you do not install all of the components together, perform only the steps that apply to the components you chose in this step.

  8. Emulation & Administration and Security Proxy: Accept the name or enter a different name of the computer on which you are installing Reflection Administrator. This name is part of the URL used to access the Reflection Administrator management server and security proxy server. (You can change this name later in the Security Proxy Wizard on the Advanced tab.)

  9. Emulation & Administration: If Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) is installed on your computer, the automated installer detects it and asks if you want to integrate your installation of Reflection Administrator with IIS as an ISAPI filter. If you select Yes, accept the default or enter the IIS HTTPS port number. (You can run the IIS Wizard later if you choose to unintegrate.) Ensure that the port number does not conflict with your entry for the servlet runner that you will specify next. If you select No, you can run the IIS Wizard later to configure Reflection Administrator to work within IIS.

  10. Servlet Runner: Accept the entries or enter the port numbers that the servlet runner will use for HTTP and HTTPS connections. The default port number for HTTP is 80; and the default for HTTPS is 443. (If you are installing Reflection Administrator as an ISAPI filter within IIS, note that IIS, by default, uses ports 80 and 443 for HTTP and HTTPS. If ports 80 and 443 are in use, change these settings to unused port numbers.)

  11. Security Proxy: Enter the port number that the security proxy will use to make connections. The default is 3000. You can change security proxy settings after installation using the Security Proxy Wizard.

  12. Emulation & Administration: Enter a web application context that will be included in the URL that you use to access available sessions and the Administrative WebStation. The URL will use the form http://[server name]/[web application context]/. The default web application context is rweb.

  13. Emulation & Administration: Enter the VPA (Volume Purchase Agreement) number for your product. This entry is optional. You can enter the VPA number later in the Administrative WebStation or in the metering configuration pages.

  14. Emulation & Administration and Metering Server: Enter a password. Use this password to open the Administrative WebStation, to open the metering configuration pages, and to view metering reports. You can create different passwords for each tool later, using the Administrative WebStation and the metering configuration pages.

  15. Metering Server: Enter the web application context that will be included in the URL that you use to access the metering server. The URL will use the form http://[server name]/[web application context]. The default metering web application context is rwebmeter. Unless you are using more than one metering server, do not change the web application context from the default. See Setting Up the Metering Component after installing the metering server.

  16. Emulation & Administration: The information that you enter on this and the following panels enables you to create an initial self-signed certificate that will be used to make a secure SSL connection to the Reflection management server after installation.

  17. Servlet Runner: Enter the validity period in days (default is 1095) after which your self-signed servlet runner certificate will expire. Set the value to give yourself sufficient time to get a CA-signed certificate. Enter the key length (default is 1024) for the servlet runner certificate. The longer the key length, the higher the security.

  18. Emulation & Administration: Specify the following information to generate the management server certificate.

  20. Review the installation path, the components that will be installed, and the total size. Click Back to make changes; click Next to install the specified components.

Servlet Runner: If you installed the servlet runner as an NT service, it is started automatically. To start and stop the service in a Windows installation, use the Services applet in the Windows Administrative Tools or Control Panel and scroll to Reflection Server in the list of services. The servlet runner must be started before you can run the Reflection management server or the metering server. For more information, see Starting the Servlet Runner.

Emulation & Administration: If you installed the management server, you can run the Administrative WebStation from any computer with a web browser. Go to the URL specified in the installer panel, which will be in the form http://[server name]/[web application context]/AdminStart.html. If you have installed Reflection on a Windows computer, you can also open the Administrative WebStation via the Start menu; go to Start > Programs > Attachmate Reflection Administrator > Administrative WebStation.
