Configuring a Notification Message

You can create a new message either as part of configuring a new notification or separately. You cannot immediately test the message if you create it while configuring a notification.

The message specifies the sender and receiver or receivers of the notification, the information to be sent, and the transport to use. An existing message can be assigned to one or more notifications, and each notification can include more than one message.

To define a new message
  1. In the MCS left pane under Services, click Events.

  2. Under Events, click Notifications.

  3. In the Notifications page, choose the Messages button.

  4. In the Message Configuration dialog box, click the New Message button.

The New Message series of pages guides you through creating a new message. The same series of pages is displayed when you click Add in the Assign Messages page when you are configuring a notification.

  5. In the New Message - Options page, type a name for your message and select a transport to use, and then click Next. Message names cannot contain spaces.

If you want to create a category in which to group new messages or add this message to an existing category, when specifying the message name, use the format category/name.

If you want to use SMTP mail and have not previously configured it, you may need to edit its properties. For information about configuring SMTP mail, see Configuring SMTP Mail.
