Multiple-User Installation

To support a multiple-user installation, install INFOConnect for Anyone Who Uses This Computer (All Users) by selecting the appropriate installation mode during Setup.

In a multiple-user installation, the products are installed in one location (usually a PC hard disk) that multiple users can access from a single PC, and each user who wants to run the products logs in under their own Windows user ID and launches the product normally. The first time each user launches the product, certain installation completion tasks will automatically be launched, and the user may see some status messages related to the installation completion process. Once the automatic actions are finished, the product will open and run normally.

Note You must use the single-user installation mode if you plan to install the following:
  • DataXpress--ST
  • Transports without emulators

Data Location Options

In a multiple-user installation, the administrator can allow users to create or modify their own INFOConnect paths or restrict users by creating or modifying the paths for them. The administrator determines this during installation by selecting the user and application data locations during Setup.

User Data Location
Select this directory
To install products so that
My Documents Each user has separate user data, including sessions, color schemes, layouts, and the like, and each user may change, create, and delete them without restriction.
Application All users share a set of sessions and other user data. If the end users are "restricted users" under Windows, they will be unable to edit, add, or delete data in the application directory; if they are power users or administrators, they can modify, add, and delete without restrictions.
All Users\Documents All users share a single set of sessions and other user data, and all users can add, modify, and delete sessions.

Note All Users\Documents is not available under Windows NT or Windows 98SE.
Application Data Location
Select this directory
To install products so that
My Documents Each user has a separate database with separately configurable paths, and each user may change, create, and delete them without restriction.

Note Some transports/options don't support using the My Documents directory location.
Application All users share a single database with all paths. If the end users are "restricted users" under Windows, they will be unable to edit, add, or delete anything from the database; if they are power users or administrators, they can modify, add, and delete without restrictions.
All Users\Documents All users share a single database with all sessions and paths, and all users can add, modify, and delete paths.

Note All Users\Documents is not available under Windows NT or Windows 98SE.

Security

Access to functions can also be limited on a per-user basis. For example, you can modify one user's security file to prevent that user from being able to create sessions, while allowing a different user access to that function. For information about security, refer to the online Help after you install the products. To do this, log on to the PC as the administrator, start Accessory Manager, and click Administrative Help from the Accessory Manager Help menu.

Uninstall

Certain Microsoft logo requirements affect the way INFOConnect is uninstalled in a multiple-user environment. When INFOConnect is uninstalled, the product will be removed completely from the machine and the registry keys will be removed from HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_USER only for the user logged on when the uninstall process was invoked. Therefore, to uninstall INFOConnect from the other users on the same machine the administrator must manually remove the registry entries and product shortcuts.
