This file contains late-breaking information about this release of Attachmate EXTRA! X-treme. EXTRA! X-treme provides access to IBM mainframe, AS/400, VAX/VMS, UNIX, or other asynchronous host applications. Using EXTRA! X-treme, users can run host applications, transfer files, and integrate data into other Windows applications.

This release includes the following:
New Startup Dialog Box
When you start EXTRA!, a new startup dialog lets you navigate options using your mouse, the TAB key, or the UP and DOWN ARROW keys. To open your selection, press ENTER or press the ALT key followed by the hot key (the underscored letter or number).
Until you open or create a session, Create a new session is selected. Thereafter, the most recently opened session is selected by default. As you open sessions, they appear in the recently used session list. If you mouse over an item, a tooltip containing the full path to that session appears, allowing you to distinguish between similarly named items. To remove items from the list, right-click it and select Remove from list. Opening the session adds it back to the list.
To prevent the dialog box from showing at startup, select Show Open Session dialog at startup instead and click Exit. (If you click another option before clicking Exit, the change won't take effect.) To re-enable the startup dialog box, select Options > Global Preferences, and deselect Show open session dialog at startup. To show the legacy startup dialog box, use REGEDIT to modify the string "ShowHyperLinkOpenDlg" with the Value data to "NO" in the Windows Registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Attachmate\EXTRA!\WorkStationUser\Preferences.
Windows Help Program Required
To view the online Help in Windows 7 or Vista, you must download the Windows Help Program (WinHlp32.exe) from the Microsoft Web site.
Programmable Productivity and MRU Features
By default, EXTRA! X-treme 9.1 installs Productivity features (such as Screen History and Spelling Checker) and a Most Recently Used (MRU) list of sessions and documents. You can modify these features, and in some cases, remove them from the application. To modify Productivity features, see Technical Note 2140. To remove Productivity features from EXTRA!, see Technical Note 2457. To modify the MRU list, see Technical Note 2454.
Print Intensified Fields in Normal Text
Intensified fields in 3270 sessions now print in normal text by default. To print these fields in bolded text, in the Print Screen dialog box, select Print emphasized fields in bold.
Enhanced Command Line Options
You can use command line options to save any changes you make when a session (.EDP) file is active. For more information about the command line functionality included with EXTRA! X-treme 9.x, see Technical Note 2153 .
Preserve Insert Mode Between Screens
When you press an AID key, Insert Mode is disabled. To keep Insert Mode enabled after pressing AID keys, choose Settings > Display, click the Attributes tab and in the Attribute Options dialog box, select the Preserve Insert Between Screens option. Insert mode will stay enabled until the INSERT key is pressed.
Support for HP Printer Appliances
Printing to an HP Printer Appliance device is now supported. For more information, see Technical Note 2456.
Set Letter Case of Returned Session Names
The property EXTRASystem.Sessions(n).Name returns the session name in a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters. To return session names in uppercase letters only, use REGEDIT to change the default value for "NamePropertyInCAPS" to "YES" in the Windows Registry. This registry setting is located in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Attachmate\EXTRA!\WorkstationUser\Preferences.
Improve Performance of IND$FILE Transfers
You can improve performance in IND$FILE transfers by increasing the default structured field size for manual transfers to 8Kb. To change the structured field size in IND$FILE transfers, choose Tools > Transfer File, click Settings, and in the Structured Field Size group, change the value in the Manual box to 8Kb.
Updated Spell Check Engine
This release includes an update to the Sentry Spelling-Checker Engine copyright © 1994-2006 Wintertree Software Inc.
High Performance Routing (HPR) Support is Discontinued
High Performance Routing (HPR), a feature available on the EXTRA! Connections Pack via the Custom Install option, is no longer supported EXTRA! X-treme 9.1 but is included for customers who use this connectivity.
16-bit API Options Not Supported
Support for 16-bit API options has been discontinued in EXTRA! X-treme. In addition, EXTRA! X-treme 9.1 doesn't support standard transport 16-bit HLLAPI.For more information, see Technical Note 2319.
Before you install EXTRA! X-treme, make sure that your system meets the following minimum requirements.
Attachmate does not support any Microsoft operating system that is no longer supported by Microsoft.

No Access Codes Required
Access code fields are automatically populated when you install EXTRA! By default, EXTRA! installs Productivity features. To deploy EXTRA! without Productivity features, see Technical Note 2457.
Over Installs and Testing
EXTRA! X-treme 9 can be installed over myEXTRA! Enterprise 7.11 and EXTRA! X-treme 8.0 and 8.0 with SP1.
Installing the Custom Installation Wizard
The Custom Installation Wizard can be installed simply by copying CustomInstallationWizard.exe from the Tools folder on the EXTRA! CD to an administrator's hard drive. When you start the wizard, the access code is populated automatically.
Installation Option Not Supported
Although you can select the option This Feature will be Installed When Required during a custom installation, the option is not supported in this version of EXTRA! X-treme.
Reboot Recommended after Uninstalling
To delete files that may be in use, Attachmate recommends rebooting your computer after uninstalling this product.
Tandem 6530 Client Option
When using Group Policy to publish EXTRA! X-treme to users, EXTRA! X-treme must be installed before the EXTRA! 6530 Client Option can be installed.
When you install EXTRA! X-treme 9 over EXTRA! X-treme 8 with myEXTRA! 6530 Client Option 8 installed, the 6530 Client Option 8 is removed. To enable Tandem connectivity, you must install EXTRA! 6530 Client Option 9 after you install EXTRA! X-treme 9. Contact your Attachmate Sales representative for information on the EXTRA! 6530 Client Option 9.
DLC Driver for Windows XP Installation
Although the Attachmate DLC driver for Windows XP cannot be covered under the “Designed for Windows XP” logo, it has been tested extensively on the Windows platform and works exceptionally well.

On computers running Windows XP, the DLC driver is installed as part of a Typical installation of EXTRA! X-treme. If, however, you want to install this driver manually on a Windows XP computer, you can do so as follows.
