To install EXTRA! X-treme directly, users must have administrative rights; however, if the Attachmate Installer Service is installed on client computers, administrators can distribute EXTRA! X-treme or later patches or service packs from Management & Control Services (MCS) to users with restricted rights. The Installer Service allows users with restricted rights in Windows to access the distributions page in MCS. Alternatively, you can make EXTRA! available to restricted users by advertising the installation or through group policy.
Administrative privileges are required to install the Installer Service on client computers but, after it is installed, all further installations can be managed through MCS.

The Attachmate Installer Service requires Microsoft Windows Installer version 2.0, which is included with Windows XP. For your convenience, Attachmate has included the Windows Installer for other operating systems on the EXTRA! Emulation Options CD.
If the correct version of Windows Installer is not present, it can be installed either before or after installing the Installer Service. On the EXTRA! Emulation Options CD, click Install EXTRA! Options and Connections, and then click Microsoft. |
