Goal

To log trace information to help troubleshoot problems that can occur in Management & Control Services (MCS) and Terminal Viewers.

Method

Using the MCS tracing function, you can view and save trace data from Terminal Viewers sessions in one central location. Tracing is not enabled by default — to enable it, you must configure and then start the configured trace.

Tracing can be used with both terminal and printer configurations. Each session logs its own trace entries locally (a separate file is created for each session), and data is reported to MCS only when requested. Using MCS, you can view and save trace data in one central location.

To trace Terminal Viewers data, you use these components:

• Terminal Viewers: A management component with which you can create and manage Java terminals, ActiveX terminals, HotGUI terminals, file transfer tools, host printers, Terminal Layouts, and Host Graphics configurations for distribution to users over an intranet or the Internet.

• Management and Control Services (MCS): A Web-based server console that administrators can use to centrally manage and configure Attachmate management components.
